The center-left Finnish Social Democratic Party (SPD) has won the parliamentary election, clinching 40 seats (17.7 percent) in the 200-member legislature. The nationalist Finns Party won 17.5 percent, which makes them the second biggest party in the parliament with 39 seats. The conservative National Coalition Party finished in third place with 17 percent of the vote and 38 seats. SDP leader Antti Rinne claimed his party’s victory in the tightly-contested race on Sunday night. “For the first time since 1999 we are the largest party in Finland... SDP is the prime minister party,” he said.
