The negotiations dragged on over the weekend with little progress, as Democrats insisted on capping immigrant detentions by federal authorities – a demand the GOP categorically rejected. Trump signed a three-week stopgap bill to reopen the government after a record-breaking shutdown began on January 25. He also warned he would invoke another shutdown if Senate Democrats did not agree to fund his border wall.
