A US refusal to take part in the reconstruction of Syria was designed to impede the return of Syrian refugees home, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday. The Russian diplomat said the US was only interested in rebuilding parts of Syria where opposition to Syrian President Bashar Assad was active. On Monday, Lavrov met in Moscow with his Lebanese counterpart Gebran Bassil. Lebanon sees no reason for Syrian refugees to remain on its territory, Bassil said following talks with Lavrov. Parts of Syria are stable and peaceful, according to Lebanon’s minister.
