Kenyan public land and railway bosses have been arrested over a land deal for the new $3billion flagship Nairobi-Mombasa railway. The two officials were the latest to be caught up in the president’s war on corruption. Chairman of National Land Commission Mohammed Abdalla Swazuri and managing director of the Kenya Railways Corporation Atanas Kariuki Maina were arrested, with public prosecutor Noordin Mohamed Haji adding in the statement he was preparing to charge the officials. The trainline links the capital with the main port of East Africa’s main port. It was funded by China and is deemed to be a crucial infrastructure project for Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta. Kenyatta has embarked on a war against corruption in recent months.
