A SpaceX rocket was launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida early on Tuesday. It deployed a satellite that will provide telecommunications services to Indonesia, India and other parts of south and southeast Asia. The rocket’s first stage landed successfully on a drone ship in the Atlantic, AP reported. The US-built, Indonesian-owned satellite will provide C-band telecommunications services. SSL completed construction of the Merah Putih satellite ahead of schedule, Telkom Indonesia said. The new satellite will replace Telkom 1, which failed in a mysterious debris-shedding event in geostationary orbit last year, Spaceflightnow said.
