Former president of Colombia Alvaro Uribe resigned his Senate seat on Tuesday, after the Supreme Court summoned him to testify on charges of making false accusations and tampering with witnesses. The probe stems from Uribe’s charges against Senator Ivan Cepeda in 2012. The ex-president said he was resigning “so that my defense does not interfere with the work of the Senate.” Uribe ruled Colombia from 2002 to 2010. The incoming president Ivan Duque is from the ranks of his Democratic Center party.
