Putin meets Iranian Supreme Leader’s envoy a day after Israel’s PM

Russian President Vladimir Putin has met a delegation from Iran headed by Ali Akbar Velayati, the foreign policy aide to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The meeting was focused on regional security and particularly the situation in Syria. US withdrawal from the multinational nuclear deal with Iran was also on the agenda, the Kremlin said in a statement. The visit comes a day after Putin met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Moscow. On Saturday, the Russian president will meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
