The Czech Republic rejects the idea that European Union countries refusing to take in migrants should have to compensate in other ways, Prime Minister Andrej Babis said on Monday. He also believes that border protection should be up to individual states, Reuters reports. Babis was reacting to comments made by German Chancellor Angela Merkel in an interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung newspaper over the weekend. She called for a “flexible system” in migration policy and letting Frontex become a European border police force which can act independently.
