China’s Foreign Ministry says it is still hopeful that a planned summit between the US and North Korea will go ahead in the future and prove successful. Direct dialogue between the leaders of the United States and North Korea is crucial to resolving the nuclear issue, the ministry said in a statement. The summit was originally set for Singapore next month but was called off last week by US President Donald Trump after he accused North Korea of “tremendous anger and open hostility.” However, he added to confusion over the meeting by taking to Twitter on Saturday to insist that it may still go ahead.
