Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban took office on Friday for a third straight term and called for beefed-up borders to cope with migrants. He said the country needs to “strengthen” its defenses to cope with “tens of millions” of migrants moving to Western Europe. His Fidesz party, in conjunction with a small ally, won a landslide victory in elections last month, and the alliance now controls 133 of Parliament’s 199 seats. Orban claimed that “Europe’s economic center of gravity” was moving eastward. In 1990, “Europe was our future, and now we are Europe’s future,” he said.
