The situation surrounding the crew members of Russia’s ‘Nord’ fishing vessel, detained in Ukraine in March, has not changed significantly, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday. “On May 8, the Kherson regional appeals court rejected an appeal against captain Vladimir Gorbenko’s arrest, lodged by his lawyers,” she noted. Gorbenko was arrested on April 6 but the Kherson City Court granted him bail on May 31. Only two crew members managed to leave Ukraine on April 19. “The remaining seven sailors, whom Ukrainian border guards prevented from crossing the border under a false pretext, still remain in Ukraine,” TASS quoted Zakharova as saying. “The Russian embassy in Kiev has been providing them with accommodation and food,” she said, adding that Moscow is working for the sailors’ return to Russia as soon as possible. Ukraine’s State Border Service detained the vessel in the Sea of Azov on March 25. The crew included ten Russian nationals.
