Iraq has struck an Islamic State target inside Syria, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi’s office said Sunday. The Iraqi Air Force targeted an IS commander position south of Deshaisha, the statement read. Iraq began striking IS positions inside Syria last year, with approval from Syrian President Bashar Assad. Both governments have been fighting the group since it declared a caliphate in the two countries in 2014.
