More than 100 demonstrators detained in Yerevan during anti-govt protests – police

More than a hundred people were detained Sunday during anti-government protests in the Armenian capital, Yerevan, according to preliminary police data cited by Interfax. There have also been brief encounters between police and protesters with ambulances rushing to the sites of the rallies. Pockets of demonstrations have been reported from several parts of the city, including the central Republic Square. Sunday marked 10th day of anti-government demonstrations, with people protesting against the election of former President Serzh Sargsyan as new prime minister. Sargsyan, meanwhile, has called on people to engage in dialogue and avoid provocations. In the latest statement, police also appealed to residents to avoid anti-government gatherings.
