Tehran to defend itself from ‘invading powers,’ says military power no threat to neighbors

Iran will produce or buy any weapons necessary for its defense, President Hassan Rouhani said in a speech on National Army Day on Wednesday. “We tell the world that we will produce or acquire any weapons we need, and will not wait for their approval,” Rouhani said in a speech in Tehran. “We tell our neighboring countries that our weapons are not against you, it’s for deterrence.” According to he president, the region is beset by “invading powers,” Reuters said. Britain, France and Germany have recently proposed fresh EU sanctions on Iran over its ballistic missiles and its role in Syria’s war. the move is aimed at persuading US President Donald Trump to preserve the 2015 nuclear deal with Tehran.
