The situation in the militant-held Damascus suburb of Douma has stabilized over the past few days and all the fighting has effectively stopped, spokesman for the Russian Reconciliation Center in Syria Major-General Yuri Yevtushenko said on Tuesday. The Jaysh al-Islam militants continue to evacuate from the enclave, following the Russian-brokered deal. Some 4,000 militants and their family members are expected to leave Douma for Syria's Idlib province shortly, according to the official, and over a half of this group has already been searched and led to the bus-boarding area. The relocation of the militants began on Sunday, with over 3,000 people leaving the enclave yesterday. Some 8,000 fighters and 40,000 of their family members are expected to leave Douma, according to estimates from the Russia military.
