40,000 homes left without power as storm batters western France

Around 40,000 homes in the region of Brittany in western France have lost power due to winter storm Carmen, which is battering the Atlantic coast with winds of over 100kph. Enedis, the French power grid company, said it has dispatched 1,500 staff to restore electricity. The storm is now moving to other regions, and 40 departments across western France have been put on orange alert.
