Six Russian Tu-22M3 long-range bombers have conducted successful airstrikes on munition stockpiles, outposts and amassed units of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) terrorists in Syria’s province of Deir ez-Zor. The planes hit terrorist positions near the village of As-Sayal, destroying all the designated targets, according to Russia’s Defense Ministry. The strategic bombers flew to Syria from Russia and returned to its bases upon completing the mission. Tuesday’s strikes allowed Syrian government forces to significantly advance against the terrorists, the ministry noted.
