Six Russian Tu-22M3 long-haul bombers delivered an airstrike on Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) targets in the Syrian province of Deir ez-Zor, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Friday. The warplanes took off for an airfield in Russia and hit militants’ command posts and fighters, TASS reports. “All designated targets were hit,” according to the military. Su-30SM fighter jets based at the Khmeimim Airbase provided back-up for the bombers in Syria’s airspace.
