On Monday, hundreds of victims of the October 1 mass shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada, filed five lawsuits in Los Angeles Superior Court in California. The suits target the operators of the Mandalay Bay Hotel, the organizers of the country music festival, and the estate of shooter Stephen Paddock. The largest of the five suits was filed on behalf of 450 people who either witnessed the shooting or were injured during it. The other four were brought by relatives of victims killed or severely injured. Houston-based lawyer Muhammad Aziz said the lawsuits were filed in California, because almost all the plaintiffs are from there and had subsequently been treated in the state. Aziz also noted that Live Nation Entertainment Inc, the organizer of the country music concert, is also based there. Paddock killed 58 people and wounded hundreds more before taking his own life. It was the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history. (Reuters)
