The U.S. Senate has confirmed John Beyrle as the new American ambassador to Russia. He will replace William Burns, who was recently appointed U.S. undersecretary for political affairs.
Fifty-four-year-old Beyrle is a career diplomat who has served in Moscow twice before. He completed a two-year stint as deputy chief of mission. His most recent posting was as American ambassador to Bulgaria.
