Vodka is the ubiquitous Russian drink, found in bars around the world. One Russian scientist thinks it could be used as a medicine for poorly pets, raising sick animals' spirits.
Evgeny Moskalyov has turned the liquid into a revolutionary form of powder.
“It’s very hard to make animals consume alcohol. There are special alcoholic potions for animals as well, but spirit causes irritation. So we turned the spirit into loose granules which could be added to their food and water. Thus, an animal can take medicines and food supplements that contain alcohol, and get better,” the pharmacologist explains.
This vodka powder comes in a granulated version or in tablets and is good for anyone’s sick pet.
Moskalyov says humans can consume it as well. It’s not as easy to get a buzz with this type of vodka as it is with the conventional kind, but it can be done.
“The neat thing about drugs is that you need very little of them to get high. But with this stuff, you do need a lot of it,” Moskalyov says.
Indeed, a person must swallow at least 30 doses of the powder in order to consume 100 grams of vodka.
But what about Russian night clubs adopting the powder into their drink menus? RT asked one Moscow club manager if he thinks vodka powder would catch on at his bar and if his bartenders could concoct a drink or two using it.
“Maybe as an experience…maybe. It might be interesting because it’s a new product,” believes Moscow club manager Sergey Popov, adding, though, that it might take some time for the granulated substance to catch on.
