Dozens of people including 15 children are still without heating in freezing conditions in Yakutia in Russia's Far East. The temperature in the affected village of Artyk is as low as minus 55 celsius.

Artyk is located in one of the coldest areas in the northern hemisphere. The central heating system in the village broke down more than two weeks ago. According to the regional emergencies centre, some residents of the affected buildings have now been given accommodation in private houses. Those who refused to leave their homes have been provided with hot food and coal and wood stoves. The emergency services say repair work should be completed by the end of the week.
