The U.S. has said it will not hesitate to defend its allies after Iran launched a fresh wave of missile tests for the second day running. Secretary of State Condolezza Rice said the U.S. had increased security in the region.

The Iranian exercises are aimed to show that the country can defend itself against U.S. or Israeli attacks. The long-range weapons included missiles launched from naval ships in the Persian Gulf, as well as torpedoes and surface-to-surface missiles. It comes a day after Iran test-fired nine missiles including ones able to hit Israel. Iran's President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, said there was no chance of a war with either the U.S or Israel.
