Russia's latest passenger plane, the Superjet 100, has successfully made its first test flight according to the manufacturers “Sukhoi”.

The company says it took off from Russia's Far Eastern city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur and spent around an hour in the air before returning. The plane's being built in co-operation with U.S. and European manufacturers. The price of a 95-seat model is around $US 28 million. The company is also working on smaller and larger capacity versions. The Sukhoi Superjet 100 is seen as the only commercially viable Russian passenger plane currently being made.
