An investigator for the United Nations, Martin Scheinin, has said the U.S. violates international law in the way it conducts military tribunals. He alleges coercion was used to extract confessions.

Martin Scheinin reports prisoners detained at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, have been categorized as alien “unlawful enemy combatants,” a category which does not exist under the international law.Mr Scheinin says even acquittal by a military commission does not guarantee release for the detainees.
