The UN has confirmed 11 of its staff died in a double car bombing in the Algerian capital, Algiers. A total of 26 people are reported to have been killed in Tuesday's attack and up to 200 injured.

The North African branch of Al Qaeda has claimed on a website that it was behind the bombings. It described the UN offices as “the headquarters of the international infidels den.”
