Ukrainian MPs agree on early election?

Political party leaders in Ukraine have reportedly given their support for calling an early general election.

It followed a closed-door meeting with President Viktor Yushchenko, who threatened to dissolve parliament if another coalition could not be formed. But Prime Minister Yulia Timoschenko's party is thought to be against holding yet another ballot. Ukraine has been caught up in a political deadlock for the past few weeks. The ruling coalition between Timoshenko's bloc and the pro-presidential party collapsed last month, after the prime minister's supporters gave their backing to a bill to limit the president's powers. So far no new alliance has been agreed, as politicians continue to accuse each other of causing the stalemate.
