Ukraine shares concerns over Russian fleet with Cheney

Russia's Black Sea Fleet poses a potential danger to Ukraine's security, according to President Viktor Yushchenko who made this statement following talks with U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney, who is visiting the country on Friday.

Yushchenko also expressed concern that Moscow may use the fleet based in Ukraine in conflicts with third parties. Cheney has been discussing the recent events in the Caucasus with the Ukrainian leadership. Earlier this week he visited Azerbaijan and Georgia. He pledged U.S. support for Georgia's President Saakashvili and his country's bid for NATO.   According to Russia's Foreign Ministry, the move can only spur Tbilisi's aggressive ambitions. Cheney blamed Russia for the political difficulties Ukraine is experiencing at the moment. He also promised U.S. support to Ukraine.
