Six people have been reported injured in Georgia's breakaway republic of Abkhazia as a result of two blasts in the city of Gagra at around 9am local time.
One woman is being treated for serious eye injuries. The blasts took place near a local market and a supermarket which are regarded as tourist spots in the resort city. Abkhazian President Sergey Bagapsh said the bombings are acts of state terrorism and is blaming Georgia, saying it wants to destabilise the situation in the region. “We have no doubt these are provocations by Georgian special forces aimed at destabilising the region during the holiday season. Actions like this have become a tradition. Every summer we see different kinds of provocations, like false reports being spread about epidemic outbreaks. An investigation is underway and we're looking at a number of possibilities, but a provocative act is the main one,” said Abkhazian Foreign Minister Sergey Shamba. Preliminary reports state that no Russians were injured in the attack.
