“Dacha” season gets underway in Russia with spring’s arrival

With spring definitely in the air, Russia’s city dwellers are starting their annual migration to head out to their rural homes, also known as “dachas”. RT gives you a taste of summer to come.

The long-held Russian tradition of swapping cosmopolitan life for the countryside as soon as the weather warms up is still extremely popular in the country.

Dacha pastimes include spending evenings in log cabins, going to wooden bathhouses, making barbecues – also known as “shashlik” – and spending time at private kitchen gardens and orchards.
