One of Russia’s greatest natural wonders, the Valley of Geysers on Kamchatka Peninsula in the country’s Far East has re-opened to the public. The picturesque site was closed in June after it was almost destroyed by a mudslide.
Although all the buildings in the area have had to be rebuilt, scientists say nature has regenerated itself, with the hot springs breaking out through their covering of mud. The Valley of Geysers, discovered in 1941, is an array of volcanic craters, thermal pools and more than 90 hot springs. Although tourists have to fly in by helicopter, the reserve is still the most popular attraction in the Kamchatka region.
