30 times above normal: Black Sea pollution wreaks havoc

Two weeks after the disaster in the Black Sea, oil pollution in the Kerch Strait is 30 times above normal levels. Four ships sank in the region’s heaviest storm in decades.

Six other vessels ran aground and two tankers were damaged, causing some 2,000 metric tonnes of oil to spill-out. Two of the vessels that sank, were carrying granulated sulphur, which was later washed-out to the sea. But environmentalists say sulphur is not particularly harmful.
