Iraqi police have reported that three Sunni mosques have been burned south of Baghdad. The attacks happened Wednesday night, leaving two mosques in Al Iskandariya and one in Al Mahaweel severely damaged.

The violence follows the destruction of a sacred Shi'ite shrine in Samarra on Wednesday. Al Qaeda militants are the prime suspects in the Samarra attack, following their involvement in a similar strike last year. Revenge attacks against Sunni Arabs were launched in Baghdad after that incident.
