Security forces have killed three suspected militants with links to Al-Qaeda in Russia's Southern Republic of Dagestan early on Saturday morning.

Militants opened fire on traffic police when they were ordered to stop at a checkpoint. No officers were injured in the shootout.

Two of the three men have been identified, with police saying one of them was on the federal wanted list for terrorism.

Later on Saturday, a blast in Dagestan’s city of Kaspiysk injured two traffic policemen. An explosive device was set up in the way of a traffic police car, according to the local Interior Ministry spokesperson.

“One policeman is bruised and another slightly injured,” the spokesman said. Investigators are working on the scene.
