More than 3,000 homes have been left without central heating following an accident on a gas pipeline in the eastern Russian city of Novosibirsk.

And that's particularly bad news, as temperatures are already -20 degrees Celsius and expected to fall to around -40 degrees.

The gas flow will be restored no earlier than Monday evening, according to local authorities. The accident on Sunday was the result of excavation work in the area.
