It is international terrorism that stands behind the latest terror attacks in Russia's North Caucasus, says the head of Russia's Security Council.
”As far as Russia is concerned, no one doubts now a threat is coming from abroad and everyone agrees that it must be countered jointly,” Nikolay Patrushev told journalists on Wednesday.
Patrushev observed that the threat comes from Afghanistan, Pakistan and some other countries. He added that Russia is well aware of where terrorists are trained.
“We have been informed where terror training camps are located and concrete regions have been named,” Patrushev said.
Nikolay Patrushev observed that Russia and its international partners share similar views on the threats international terrorism poses.
”On this basis we can work on a mechanism of how to fight them and it is very important,” he said.
According to Aleksandr Selivanov from Moscow State Humanitarian University, Al-Qaeda is the most likely instigator of the attacks in Russia’s south.
”We know that Al-Qaeda is a cross-border criminal network and training camps are well-known in terms of location, so we can say that the terrorists come from Pakistan, from Afghanistan and especially from cross–border territories,” he said.
