Fighting terrorism and bolstering the struggling global economy will top the agenda of talks between Dmitry Medvedev and the Indian leadership. Cooperation in nuclear, energy and military fields are also set to be discussed.
The Russian President began his first ever trip to India with an informal dinner hosted by the Indian Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh. Medvedev offered condolences to India, as well as assistance, in the wake of last week’s massacre in Mumbai. “Without doubt we are ready for full-scale co-operation on all anti-terrorism issues,” he said. “We have a strategic partnership and friendly relations. We are ready to help our Indian friends to fight this common threat.” The talks in Delhi will focus on the investigation into exactly what happened and how to prevent similar atrocities happening again. Russia and India plan to tighten cooperation in this area and are set to hold joint anti-terror training in January.
