Russia took a 2-0 lead in their Fed Cup final against Italy in Moscow, leaving them within one victory of a third title.

The wins in the singles came courtesy of Anna Chakvetadze and Svetlana Kuznetsova. Chakvetadze struggled against Francesca Schiavone, but eventually came through in three sets.  The 20-year-old was 3-0 down in the final set before coming back to take it 6-4.  The final score: 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.   World number two Svetlana Kuznetsova had an easier time.  She absolutely demolished Mara Santangelo, dropping just three games in the 6-1, 6-2 win.
