More than 50 people were killed and 200 injured by a suicide bomber in the latest bloodshed in the Iraq capital. The tragedy only added to the tension of the country.
Scores of Iraqis gather daily in Tayaran Square in Baghdad, drawn by the desperate need for money and hoping to be hired for work. This time they were lured to their deaths. A suicide bomber pulled up in a truck and claimed he wanted to hire some workers. Witnesses reported people swarming around the truck. Then the explosion came.It's a tactic which has been used before. The same area's been targeted four times in the past year. The attack's been blamed on Sunni militants and seen as revenge against the Shia death squads which are thought responsible for hundreds of recent abductions and executions.
