Sloppy safety system caused deaths in Moscow fire

Rescue workers have called off the search for any bodies in the debris following Tuesday's fire at Moscow's Institute of State and Corporate Management. Nine people died and up to 47 remain in hospital as a result of the incident, seven of the injured are

Moscow's blood transfusion service has appealed for more donors to help the injured. Most of the victims were students attending classes. According to the emergency services, the high number of casualties was due to serious safety violations. Two months ago, the Institute was warned of potential fire hazards. However, nothing was reportedly done to remedy the situation. The blaze was classified as a category five – the most severe. Around 50 fire engines as well as two helicopters were called in to assist.
