An explosion at a metal-works factory has killed one person and injured 18 in Russia’s Southern Siberia.

Several people were taken to hospital with two of them in critical condition following the blast in the city of Novokuznetsk.

The reason for the blast is not yet known, although investigations are centering on a possible fault in the metal making process.

Further, a criminal case has been launched over breaches in health and safety laws.

The explosion comes just weeks after a massive blast at a mine in the same region left at least 66 people dead.
