Shuttle Discovery mission to ISS accomplished

The Space Shuttle Discovery has completed its mission at the International Space Station. American astronauts are leaving the orbiting outpost, content that they've accomplished every task set out for the eight day mission.

The mission had 3 main aims. Firstly, to install a two-ton support attachment to the ISS structure. Secondly, to rewire the power and thermal systems. And finally, to retract an old solar panel in order that a new one could collect solar energy. This task was one of the most difficult the astronauts have faced since the station was launched.The shuttle will return to Earth at Florida's Kennedy space centre on Friday, one day later than planned.
