Ships of the desert sunk by trash

In Abu Dhabi, an eleven-year-old South African boy has launched a campaign against litter in the desert to try to save camels from suffocation.

The animals eat anything they can find including rubbish, and it accumulates in their stomachs leading to a slow and painful death for one out of every two camels. The boy's initiative has given rise to the first ever desert clean-up day, with the promise of many more to follow.
