Shells detonate at artillery range, dozens wounded

Several gun shells have detonated at an artillery school training range in Russia. At least one person is reported dead and dozens wounded.

The incident happened in the Ryazan region in central Russia.

The shells were being unloaded from two freighter vehicles when the detonation occurred, according to RIA Novosti news agency. Their source reports one person died and at least 40 were injured from the explosions.

The Defense Ministry said the shells were meant to be destroyed. The ministry also states that 23 people were wounded, reports Interfax.

Military prosecutors have been dispatched to investigate the incident.
