Russia’s Krylya Sovetov have been unable to see off Irish outfit St Patrick’s Athletic in the Europa League.
Leonid Slutsky’s men won the second leg clash 3-2 on the night, but crashed out of the third qualifying round on away goals, with an own goal further adding to the club's ongoing troubles.
The Samara outfit got off to a great start on that night, delighting the local crowd at the Metallurg stadium and leading 3-0 early in the second half. Evgeny Savin netted two of those goals, after Anton Bober opened the scoring.
Things went south for Krylya after that, when Bober scored an own goal in the 73rd minute of last night’s match. Declan O'Brien then took advantage of the five minutes of open play later to net the Irish side's only goal on the night.
That effort was enough for St Patrick's to go through on away goals.
The Samara side’s failure was the second for Russian clubs in this year’s European competitions, after Dynamo Moscow failed to withstand the opposition of Scottish giant Celtic in a Champions League qualifier earlier this week.
