Former Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze has said he ‘would be on the streets with protesters if he were healthy’. He also accused Mikhail Saakashvili of having a 'desire to hold on to power by all means’. Eduard Shevardnadze was ousted by Saakashvil

“If I were healthy, I would have been there with the people. I don't blame the government. I left my office voluntarily, two years before my term was over, to avoid the spilling of blood. I can't say if the president is good or bad, or if he has any whims, if we can call his desire to preserve his power by all means a whim. I would have resigned,” Shevardnadze stressed.
