Thousands of curious onlookers watched on as a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere was dragged out of the ground in Oklahoma on Friday. The car was buried there 50 years ago as a time capsule.

The two-door Plymouth had been buried in a crypt in front of the courthouse to celebrate Oklahoma's 50 years of statehood. At the unveiling ceremony the protective wrapping was removed to reveal that the vehicle was covered with rust. There was a separate time capsule inside the car with an American flag, aerial maps of the city and postcards which were all in good condition.
