A Russian rocket-carrier has taken a state-of-the-art military satellite into orbit. It was launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, and will strengthen the security services' internal communications.

The state company handling the launch says connection has already been established and all of its systems are functioning properly. According to the programme’s supervisor, colonel-general Vladimir Popovkin, the new satellite’s task is to provide communication for military and police departments.
