Russia’s Constitutional Court is to move to St. Petersburg, where it will begin its work in May, 2008. Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed the decree officially sanctioning the move.
The Russian State Duma approved the relocation last year. Vladimir Putin signed the decree during a meeting with the judges of the Constitutional Court in the ‘northern capital of Russia’ on Sunday. “Now as the Constitutional Court is moving here, the city has an important state function and has the right to be called the ‘second capital’,” he said. The Court will begin its relocation in February next year.
