The Mir-1 and 2 submersibles have resumed their exploration of Russia's Lake Baikal. It is the first dives since earlier this week when one of the subs was damaged after colliding with a barge during a storm.

The expedition to the bottom of Baikal was delayed while the engine was repaired. The mission is aimed at exploring the bed of the world's deepest lake. If they succeed it would be a world record for the deepest freshwater dive.
